Elise Gibson, LCSW
Elise is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Charlottesville, VA. She received her Bachelors of Arts from the University of Virginia in Anthropology and her Masters in Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University. Elise has over seven years of clinical experience in a variety of settings including, community mental health and substance abuse treatment, early childhood home visiting, and working with medically under resourced groups. In Fall 2020, she will begin a fellowship through the Contemporary Freudian Society in Washington DC. Through institute training, she hopes to integrate theories of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy into her work with clients. In addition to Charlottesville Empowerment, Elise is a part-time therapist at the Women's Initiative.
Elise provides a strength-based and empowerment-focused approach to treatment. She believes all people have a natural bend toward wellness and that therapy can help tap into those already present internal resources. She is both skill based and process driven, providing her clients with the practical tools to manage their current life stressors while also addressing deeper wounds that keep them stuck in old patterns. She has a specific interest in the neurobiology of trauma and has received training in Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Using a holistic framework, Elise provides care through an intersectional lens, factoring in her client’s social, political, and economic contexts. She believes it is essential to create space to process both collective and individual traumas in the clinical setting. As a social worker, she incorporates the values of diversity, social justice, and cultural humility into her practice.
Elise’s fees are $100 for an individual session and $120 for an intake assessment. Elise currently accepts Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna and Aetna and will help submit reimbursement as an out of network provider.
