Gabby Scalzo, M.S.
Doctoral Extern
Pronouns: They/Them

Gabby is a Clinical Psychology Doctoral Student at Virginia Commonwealth University. They have three years of supervised experience providing psychotherapy. All of their work at Charlottesville Empowerment will be supervised by Dr. Tasha Nadasdi. They love working at Charlottesville Empowerment, where they can continue acting on the commitments they have made to Social Justice work and Intersectional Feminism.
Gabby takes an integrated and client-centered approach to therapy, which means they work with each client to figure out what type(s) of therapy will be most helpful for them. Some of their major influences are feminist therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). However, they are also continually working to learn new skills and adjust their worldview accordingly.
Gabby’s goal as a therapist is to help empower their clients to build fulfilling and meaningful lives that are in line with their values; for some clients that might mean getting support in exploring what a meaningful life means to
them. Others may already have specific goals in mind and are looking for support in the form of skills and tools to get there. There is no one "right way" to be a healthy, fulfilled person. Gabby is especially passionate about working with polyamorous, queer, and neurodivergent adults, and they strive to provide affirming and culturally humble care to all their clients.
Gabby works with a wide variety of concerns, and some areas they hope to specialize in include:
-
Grief and Bereavement
-
Childhood Trauma
-
Culturally-Based Trauma
-
Identity Concerns and Exploration
-
Life Transitions
-
Challenges with Emotion Regulation
Gabby currently lives in Richmond, VA, where they enjoy rock climbing with their loved ones, as well as spending time with their cat (who does not go rock climbing). They can almost always be found obsessing over a least one TV show, and they indulge in creative writing in their spare time.
Gabby is not currently accepting new clients.
